Renee Carroll and Becca Corsetti teach dance to individuals of all ages at Beyond Dance of Lynnfield, tucked off of Main Street at 8 Centre Court.
Since opening in September of 2023, Carroll and Corsetti have been enthusiastic about the reception the business has gotten around town in the months since.
“We’ve gotten a lot of parents that call and say they’re local in town and have heard wonderful things (of the studio), and everyone likes to have a studio that’s nice and close in town, where kids can walk over from the middle school right over to class,” Corsetti said.
Carroll said she feels that families appreciate the convenience of having a studio in their town.
Carroll said that she grew up dancing, attending Jeanette Neill’s dance studio in Boston from middle school to high school, and then went on to Arizona State, where she received her BFA in dance. From Arizona State, Caroll went east to New York, auditioning for Disney and dancing with them for four years in California, before coming back to Massachusetts. Here, she met Corsetti at the Movement Center Dance Studio, where they worked alongside one another for six years.
“I have two little girls, and they’ll be growing up dancing here. It’s been great. The town has been awesome,” Carroll said.
Corsetti, too, has been dancing since a young age, “just like our little babies here.” She started when she was 18 months old, competed in dance throughout high school, and attended Pace University in New York for commercial dance.
Corsetti rattled off the styles of dance that are taught at the studio, including tap, ballet, jazz, acro, hip-hop, lyrical, and contemporary.
“Just about everything,” Corsetti said with a laugh.
Dance for Carroll and Corsetti is more than just a fun activity.
“For children, it’s just so huge to be in an activity that keeps them busy, and to learn,” Carroll said.
Their classes teach more than dance. Corsetti said that it helps to teach basic life skills, like “learning to wait their turn, going across the floor one at a time, learning to raise their hand, to be patient, their balance, and their gross motor skills.”
First and foremost, for their youngest dancers, Corsetti said that the studio emphasizes fun.
“Of course, we want them to learn and grow, but if you are too pushy of a teacher, or too hard on the kids, they’re not going to love — we want them to find their love for dance, before anything else,” she said.
As the weather warms up, the studio hopes to continue offering classes in outdoor spaces around town, collaborating with local institutions like MarketStreet. It has previously held classes at the Lynnfield Commons and the library.
With their first summer upcoming, the studio plans to hold a recital at Lynnfield Middle School on June 15, when students of all age groups will perform choreographed dance routines, which Carroll and Corsetti said they have been going over during the last several months.
Fall enrollment is now open at the studio, and Carroll and Corsetti are hoping to expand their offerings with an adult class in September.
